The past few weeks have seen the Year 10s engaged in several activities that will assist them with their future learning and career options.
Year 10 Students and Parents were invited to a ‘Pizza and Pathways’ information evening, where the different pathways available to our students in Senior School were explained to the group. The information provided on this night will prove very useful when students sit down with their parents and Careers Advisor, Mr Martin Thayer, and pick their Year 11 Subjects later in the school year. The evening was very well attended and put a lot of parents’ minds at ease about the support and options Northshore is providing their children with as they transition to Senior School learning.
On Friday, 17 May, the content from the Pizza and Pathways evening was reinforced by a visit to the annual Careers Expo. The Year 10s had the opportunity to explore a wide range of post-school options, from Universities, TAFE, and Private Colleges to apprenticeships and the Australian Defence Force. The Expo opened the student’s eyes to how broad some of the opportunities are for them when they graduate and allow many of our Year 10s to see where different pathways might take them in their futures.
To top off all these activities, the Year 10s will participate in a week of Work Experience after their exams are complete. It is always exciting to see some of the different opportunities the students have sought out for themselves, and already, we can see that we may have a future baker in our year group and a few teachers.
If you own a business or have links to any trades or places of work, we would love for you to contact the school to expand our Work Experience network.
