Huggy Bears Bring Comfort to Kindy Students
At the start of the term, our Kindy students received a very special gift through the Huggy Bears Program – their very own cuddly bear to keep and treasure. The program was initiated by Carolyn, a much-loved great-grandmother from the Northshore community, whose kindness has brought comfort and joy to many young students over the years.
Carolyn visited the school to personally deliver the bears, making the moment even more meaningful for the children. Each student was able to choose their own bear, and Carolyn carefully wrote their name on its foot so that every bear truly belonged to its new owner.
She also shared with the students why these bears are so special:
“These Bears are special; they can be hugged and held whenever you are feeling a little sad or lonely, and you can talk to your bear any time. The Huggy Bears have large ears, so they can listen to whatever bothers you. You can also get an extra kiss from Mum or Dad in the mornings and save the kiss inside the Huggy Bears pocket for when you need it.”
At school, there is also a special place where the Huggy Bears live, ready to provide comfort and cuddles whenever they are needed.
Behind every bear is a group of dedicated volunteers who spend many hours knitting each one with care.
For Carolyn, the program has been a journey of trusting the Lord’s provision. Even when the task of knitting hundreds of bears felt overwhelming, she trusted that God would provide. She is especially grateful to her church community at Son City Church, and to Pastor Jon, who supported the project in many ways, including sponsoring all the materials needed.
Carolyn often reflects that if even one child finds comfort in their Huggy Bear, then every stitch is worth it. As she beautifully reminds us, Jesus always comes for the one.
We know our Kindy students will treasure their Huggy Bears this year and for many years to come.
Anyone interested in supporting this beautiful initiative can contact the school, and we will gladly pass on your details to Carolyn.
