Three Northshore students recognised among Western Australia’s emerging artists
We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Grace (Year 11), Danelle (Year 11) and Haley (Year 10), whose artworks were selected for exhibition at this year’s St George’s Cathedral Art Exhibition on Thursday, 23 July.
The exhibition showcases exceptional student artwork from schools across Western Australia, providing young artists with the opportunity to share meaningful and thought-provoking works with the wider community. Our students represented Northshore with creativity, technical excellence and remarkable depth of thinking, each exploring a unique narrative through their chosen subject matter.
Haley exhibited Memory and Belonging, a deeply personal work inspired by the relationship shared with her mother. Through a softly blended portrait set against a dark background, the artwork captures a quiet moment of connection, exploring the idea that belonging is found not in a physical place but in the relationships that shape our lives. The subtle transitions of tone mirror the way memories can soften over time while remaining deeply significant, creating a moving reflection on love, identity and home.
Drawing inspiration from Scripture, Danelle presented Put Your Hand on the Bow, 2 Kings 13:16, an artwork that speaks powerfully of humanity’s dependence on God. With the Bible positioned as the central focus, the piece symbolises divine guidance, strength and wisdom beyond human capability. It invites viewers to reflect on God’s enduring presence and the importance of placing their trust in Him, offering a thoughtful expression of faith through visual art.
Inspired by a historic photograph from the Battle of the Bogside in 1969, Grace explored the human cost of conflict in a compelling painting centred on the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Depicting a child wearing a gas mask, the artwork conveys both vulnerability and resilience while highlighting the lasting effects of violence, division and generational trauma. The concealed face encourages viewers to look beyond the individual and consider the universal experiences of fear, survival and hope.
These works are a testament not only to our students’ artistic ability but also to their willingness to engage with complex ideas and communicate them with sensitivity, courage, and skill. We congratulate each of our exhibiting artists on this wonderful achievement and thank them for representing Northshore Christian Grammar School with such distinction. Their success reflects the creativity, dedication and thoughtfulness that continue to flourish within our Visual Arts programme.
