Year 1 Tinkering Zone Incursion: A Hands-On Learning Adventure!
Our Year 1 students recently had an exciting opportunity to participate in the Tinkering Zone incursion, hosted by Educated by Nature. This engaging and hands-on learning experience allowed students to explore a variety of real tools, including hammers, hand drills, saws and whittling tools, all within a safe and supportive environment.
The session aimed to inspire students to take creative risks while experimenting with different materials. Students discovered how various materials can be cut, shaped and joined together to create something entirely new. Through this interactive experience, our young learners developed essential fine motor skills, increased their confidence and built resilience as they tinkered, built and collaborated with their peers.
This incursion was directly linked to their current Science inquiry on Materials. Our students have been exploring the properties of materials, learning how they can change, and discovering how these materials can be utilised to design and construct new objects. The Tinkering Zone provided an authentic and engaging context for students to apply their newfound knowledge, fostering curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and a lasting love for hands-on learning.
We are thrilled with the positive impact this experience had on our Year 1 students and look forward to more exciting learning adventures in the future!
