Pre-Primary Students Explore the Art of Spinning Wool

Our pre-primary classes were treated to a visit from Janet, an expert in the craft of spinning wool. With years of experience under her belt, Janet offered our students a glimpse into the fascinating process of turning wool into yarn.

Starting with the basics, she discussed where wool comes from and the essential steps required to prepare it for use, including the shearing of sheep and the subsequent cleaning of the wool. The children were captivated as Janet demonstrated the transformation of raw wool into yarn with the help of a spinning wheel. It was a unique opportunity for some of our students to get hands-on experience with the spinning wheel, sparking curiosity and wonder among the young learners.

Janet also explained what happens once the yarn is spun. She showed how it’s wound into balls, preparing it for knitting and other crafts. Moreover, she brought along some completed items, giving the children a full view of the crafting journey from start to finish.

We extend our sincere thanks to Janet for sharing her knowledge and passion with us. Her visit was a valuable learning opportunity, providing our students with insights into the traditional craft of spinning wool. We’re always looking for ways to enrich our students’ learning experiences by introducing them to new skills and perspectives. This visit was a remarkable reminder of the importance of hands-on learning and the joy it brings to our students.
