Reflections and Memories from an Unforgettable Journey
In the early hours of Saturday, 18 April, our Year 12 students and staff set off from Perth at 4:30 am, embarking on a 13-hour journey north to Coral Bay. While the destination promised beautiful scenery and unforgettable experiences, the true purpose of the camp went far deeper.
The camp centred on encouraging students to reflect on what adult life looks like and how to navigate the challenges that come with it. Each evening, staff shared personal stories from their own lives. Honest, sometimes difficult, and always meaningful. These sessions concluded with a powerful question-and-answer panel on the final evening, where students engaged in real conversations and gained valuable insights. It was an opportunity for students to hear authentic experiences and begin equipping themselves with the resilience and understanding needed for life beyond school.
Of course, the natural wonders of Coral Bay did not disappoint. Students were treated to incredible encounters with marine life, including dugongs, manta rays, turtles, reef sharks, stingrays and a vibrant array of fish and coral. These moments created lasting memories and a deep appreciation for the unique environment they were able to explore.
A particularly special aspect of the camp was the presentation of student diaries. Each diary had been thoughtfully pre-filled with messages from staff and fellow classmates, creating a meaningful keepsake for students to treasure and continue writing in throughout their final year.
Beyond the structured activities, the camp was filled with simple joys, relaxing beach time, plenty of ice cream and more than a few visits to the local bakery. It was a fantastic time away, combining reflection, connection and fun, and one that will undoubtedly stay with students as they move forward into the next stage of their lives.
