Celebrating Scientific Inquiry: Northshore’s First Primary Science Fair

On Tuesday, 13 August, Northshore took a step forward in our commitment to fostering a love of science among our students by hosting our very first primary science fair. The event, a part of our annual Science Week celebrations, turned out to be a meaningful showcase of the scientific talents budding within our young students from Years 3-6.

With a focus on the theme “Species Survival – More Than Just Sustainability,” our students were asked to create projects at home that delved into this critical aspect of science and our world. The theme aimed to inspire thoughts on how various species can continue to survive and thrive amidst the changes our planet faces. The range of projects submitted demonstrated not just the creativity of our students but also their capacity to engage with complex concepts in innovative ways.

We were fortunate to have Mr. Heglund from the High School Science Department join us as a judge for the day, his participation adding a touch of gravity to the event. His feedback was invaluable, something the participants will remember and learn from moving forward.

Each project reminded us of the importance of encouraging our students’ natural curiosity and a deeper understanding of science. As we look back on this first science fair, we feel encouraged by its success and excited about the potential it has unearthed in our young learners. These small steps lay the foundation for a lifelong journey of discovery and learning.
