Year 7-10
Electives

At Northshore, we pride ourselves on taking the care and time to allow students at all academic levels to achieve their goals.

We offer access to a diverse range of programs, whether through ATAR or a General Pathway, designed to support student interests and strengths. Our school adopts a holistic approach with numerous excursions, incursions, and opportunities for community engagement to enhance every students’ secondary school experience and help develop wholesome and resilient life skills.

Learning experiences reflect our strong emphasis on encouragement and pastoral care, creating the positive environment to help our students have the best possible post-secondary opportunities.

Year 7 and 8 Tasters

In the first years of Secondary School, students study a more generalised curriculum, with all courses mandated by the Western Australian government.

Students will rotate between what will become more specialised areas of learning in Years 9 and 10, and include Technologies (Woodwork, Food Technology), The Arts (Drama, Music and Visual Art), and Languages (Indonesian).

Year 9 and 10 Choices

In Years 9 and 10, there is more scope for student choice as they prepare for Senior School pathway and subject selection. Students can select from:

  • Drama
  • Music
  • Visual Art
  • Food Technology
  • Textiles
  • Woodwork
  • Jewellery Design
  • Digital Technology
  • Media Arts
  • Childcare
  • Sports Management and Performance
  • Outdoor Recreation
  • Indonesian

In Year 10, these choices become more defined as students identify their areas of interest and future career ambitions. We have excellent support strategies to help students navigate this process, including career guidance and assistance with external course applications, such as VETDSS.
